NATURAL PERFUMERY COURSE

Second day - Initiation to professional perfumery

The second level of our perfumery course is opened only to those who have gained the basic knowledge by following the initiation course. This course introduces to the professional aspect of perfume making.

This course is mostly practical and every student will have to compose 3 perfumes during the day.

They will take the challenge of the real (material) world to compose a first custom fragrances that was ordered to us through our online form for a custom perfume.

It will be a practicing exercise completely real and without artifice, consisting in effectively doing the work of a composer perfumer to whom real persons have entrusted the composition of their "scent of the soul".

A professional perfumer does not only compose perfumes for the people to wear, a great part of his work is about ambient fragrances. We shall learn the rules that orchestrate the composition of ambient fragrances.

At the end you will also learn how to compose perfumes for paper supports, which are also very much requested by the market for stamped material in view of sensorial marketing. We shall perfume our own visit cards with the perfumes we shall produce.

You will also learn the olfactory qualities of the essences that you will use, their individual properties and how they behave in blend with other essences.

When the compositions will have been completed, you will have to give them their name.

Finding the name of a fragrance is not a fantasy game but a interior process that requires "listening to the soul" as taught in Kodo, the Japanese Zen of perfume.

At the end of the course all the perfumes will be bottled and everyone will keep the perfumes that he has composed.

The course is held by AbdesSalam Attar, composer perfumer, owner of "La Via del Profumo" and author of the texts on natural perfumery published in this site.

PROGRAM

MORNING, THE ART OF SMELLING:

All the morning is dedicated to the art of smelling. We shall examine 14 new essences, and this will bring the total of the scents at our disposition for working to 28. We shall learn how to "listen to the soul" in order to translate with words what we smell. This is the first step of Kodo teaching, the Japanese Zen of perfume.
We shall take advantage of this occasion to learn how to compare qualities. The students are invited to bring some of the essences they have in order to evaluate their quality, comparing them with the reference quality of those that we provide to the students of perfumery.

The giving a name to your fragrances will be the way to immediatly translate into a result what you have learned to do in the morning, listening to the soul.
