WHY I CHOSE NATURAL PERFUMES

I did not really choose to become a natural perfumer or to exclusively compose natural perfumes. From the moment I began this trade, I noticed that chemical essences, which I used to test undiluted on the skin, would cause me allergies and heavy headaches. At the same time, following a book of Valnet bought in Grasse, I realized that natural essences could cure me. Naturalness was not an initial choice.

Recognizing exquisite scents

I started with ingredients that the public clamored for, including amber, musk, patchouli, rose, sandalwood, violet, and so on. However, I was always searching for something better, for the most exquisite scents. Soon, I recognized in natural essences what I was searching for: exquisiteness.

Rare gemstones or plastic beads

I chose to make natural perfumes as someone chooses to work with precious metals and rare gemstones instead of plastic beads and pearls of colored glass. From an aesthetic point of view, I could have inserted synthetic aromas into my natural compositions, but there were two reasons that prevented me from doing so. The first reason was my experience with allergies and the inconveniences that they cause. The second reason was that I wanted only the best, and in the world of scents, the best simply means the natural.

An emerald is more beautiful than a piece of green glass, this is not a question of taste, but of understanding. Children and girls love costume jewelry made of glass, nickel, or plastic. It is joyful, one can show off at a small price and there are real masterpieces of costume jewelry made with common materials. However, real ladies wear real jewels and a bride would never accept anything else than a golden ring and an eternal diamond.

Crown jewels and altar vases

There are certain things that jewelers cannot do with their stunning materials. For example, the gorgeous glass windows of cathedrals are not made out of rubies, emeralds, or gold, but of colored glass and lead. However, the altar vases are always made of gold mounted with gemstones, and the crowns of kings and queens – who step up on the altar to be consecrated – are priceless unique jewels.

Commercial perfumery has just as much right to its existence, as costume jewelry of colored glass and plastic. As long as the perfume does not poison the public… with IFRA (International Fragrance Association) certified ingredients.

Olfactory jewels

Because of the very nature of the materials that they are made of, natural perfumes are olfactory jewels.
